Welcome to Gymnasium Paulinum

When you choose a school, you choose the community in which your child will live and grow for the coming years. That community matters, immensely: it must enrich, support, and inspire your child.

Founded in Münster in 797 and imbued by a global perspective, Gymnasium Paulinum is the intellectual home for those seeking an excellent education and an open, multicultural community. We inspire students to discover their individualities, pursue their dreams, and think internationally.

International Students

Some students arrive at our school with no knowledge of German, others may have a limited knowledge of the language. New students take part in standard classes but are regularly instructed in German in small groups by qualified teachers (DaZ/ German as a second language) until such times as they are able to communicate sufficiently in both spoken and written German, so that they can be evaluated in terms of the normal grading system.

At Gymnasium Paulinum, students can earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma, recognized and accepted worldwide, in addition to the German Abitur.

Orientation Level

The transition to secondary school marks an important change for our students.  After four years of elementary school students attend classes on the orientation level, the 5th and 6th grades (Erprobungsstufe). Each student is placed in a homeroom class with about 28 students. A team of teachers provides not only academic, but also social-emotional support. Older students (10thgraders) assist our new students as mentors, especially during their first weeks at their new school. During this time of orientation level teachers offer task-based instruction, observe and evaluate the students.

Students continue their social and emotional learning using tools such as Lions Quest.

Gymnasium Paulinum provides a safe and nurturing environment for after-school programming on regular school days. In the Übermittagsbetreuung, students have the opportunity to complete their homework, have some leisure time to play, be creative, spend time with friends and enjoy healthy snacks or lunch in our cafeteria Paula. Our afternoon activities enable students to discover and pursue hobbies by allowing them to choose from several special classes in the fields of music, art, science, technology, nature and sports.

Middle School

We recognize that the middle school years (Mittelstufe, grades 7-9/10) require creativity, personalized attention and a rich, engaging curriculum to bring out the best in students. Qualified subject specialists teach a variety of academic disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, P.E., art and music. Languages of instruction are German and English. Starting in grade 7, students also have the opportunity to learn French, Latin and Spanish. From grade 7 students work and learn with tablets.

Upper Level

Our Oberstufe consists of grades 10 – 12. In addition to the German graduation exam (Abitur), our students have the opportunity to obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma, recognized and accepted worldwide.
